The development of NAV started in 1999. Prior to that NTNU, like so
many others, had acquired a traditional network management system (HP

investigation and adjustment of the system we found however that it
lacked functionality in many areas. We decided to implement a basic
system ourself.

Where is NAV going?

NAV has a long history and a lot of code to maintain. Our current strategy is this:

	* Let there be no doubt; our focus is on network management
	* NAV's key strength is on detecting network topology, tracking machines and visualizing the network.
	* We will focus on supporting commonly deployed network equipment.

how to add traphandlers to it.

What is the snmptrapd?

The snmptrapd is a program written in python designed to receive traps
sent to NAV and process them by sending them to
traphandlers. Traphandlers are independent and may be written by
whoever wants to. snmptrapd is based on the pysnmp-library and the
example on Python@SourceForge
